Visitor Contraband Interdiction | May 19 – 20, 2018

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) has zero tolerance for contraband of any kind, and visitors attempting to introduce contraband are subject to immediate termination of their visitation privileges.

Whenever contraband is recovered on a visitor, local law enforcement is always contacted as well and they determine whether to make an arrest.

This past weekend, institutional staff stopped eight visitors from introducing contraband into FDC’s secure facilities:

Columbia Correctional Institution Annex: On May 20, the institution’s K-9 team discovered marijuana in a visitor’s vehicle. The individual’s visitation privileges were terminated.

Columbia Correctional Institution: On May 20, the institution’s K-9 team discovered narcotics in a visitor’s vehicle. The individual’s visitation privileges were terminated.

Cross City Correctional Institution: On May 20, institution staff discovered marijuana on two visitor’s persons. The visitors were arrested for introduction of contraband and visitation privileges were terminated.

Gadsden Correctional Facility: On May 19, institution staff observed inappropriate contact betweeen an inmate and a visitor. The visit was immediately terminated.

Gulf Correctional Institution: On May 20, institution staff discovered narcotics on a visitor’s person. The visitor was arrested and her visitation privelages were terminated.

Lawtey Correctional Institution: On May 19, the institution’s K-9 team discovered narcotics in a visitor’s vehicle. The visitor was arrested and her visitation privelages were terminated.

Reception and Medical Center: On May 19, institution staff discovered a cell phone on a visitor’s person. The visitor was arrested for introduction of contraband and her visitation privelages were terminated.
