Tallahassee, Fla. — Today, Florida Commissioner of Agriculture and Consumer Services Nikki Fried issued the following statement after the Florida House of Representatives late last night passed HB5, an extreme bill that would ban abortions in Florida after 15 weeks with no exceptions.
“Republicans passed this bill after voting against amendments that would create exceptions for victims of rape, incest, and human trafficking. It’s cruel, it’s immoral, and it’s inhumane. It will punish women who have endured traumas these privileged white men could never even imagine, and every single member who voted for it should be ashamed of themselves.”
The bill heads to the Senate next.
