TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Earlier today, Florida House Democratic legislators sent a letter to the Florida High School Athletics Association (FHSAA) in light of a proposed rule to require female student athletes to report their menstruation cycle.

In the letter, the legislators ask the FHSAA Board of Directors questions such as how this proposal came to be, were there any objections, and more. The legislators also request the FHSAA rescind its proposal to include menstruation reporting requirements for female student athletes in Florida.

“I still can’t wrap my head around the FHSAA’s proposal that would require female student athletes to report personal information about their menstruation cycle. It’s an invasion of privacy and quite frankly outrageous,” said Leader Fentrice Driskell (D-Tampa). “Girls deserve to have the dignity to play sports without worrying that Big Brother is demanding to know when her cycle starts. We sincerely hope the FHSAA does the right thing and reverses course on this unwanted and invasive proposal.”
