Visitor Contraband Interdiction | January 22 – January 28, 2019

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) has zero tolerance for contraband of any kind, and visitors attempting to introduce contraband are subject to immediate termination of their visitation privileges.

Whenever contraband is recovered on a visitor, local law enforcement is contacted, and they determine whether to make an arrest.

Desoto Annex: On January 27, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff discovered marijuana inside the vehicle. Their visitation was terminated.

Hamilton Annex: On January 26, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff discovered marijuana inside the vehicle. Their visitation was terminated.

Hamilton Correctional Institution: On January 26, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff discovered marijuana inside the vehicle. The visitor was arrested for introduction of contraband.

On January 26, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on two additional visitor vehicles. Staff discovered marijuana inside each vehicle. Their visitations were terminated.

Jackson Correctional Institution: On January 27, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. The visitor refused consent to search the vehicle. Their visitation was terminated.

Lake City Correctional Facility: On January 27, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on four visitor vehicles. Staff discovered marijuana inside each vehicle. Their visitations were terminated.

Lowell Annex: On January 27, staff observed an exchange between a visitor and an inmate. Upon further investigation, the inmate was found to be in possession of narcotics. The visitor was arrested for introduction of contraband.

Staff discovered an additional visitor to be in possession of narcotics upon entry into the facility. They were arrested for introduction of contraband.

*Madison Work Camp: On January 21, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff discovered marijuana inside the vehicle. Their visitation was terminated.

Martin Correctional Institution: On January 27, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. The visitor refused consent to search the vehicle. Their visitation was terminated.

*Polk Correctional Institution: On January 21, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff discovered marijuana inside the vehicle. Their visitation was terminated.

Reception and Medical Center – West: On January 26, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff discovered marijuana inside the vehicle. Their visitation was terminated.

South Florida Reception Center: On January 27, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on two visitor vehicles. Staff discovered marijuana inside each vehicle. Their visitations were terminated.
