Tallahassee, Fla. — Ahead of Hurricane Dorian’s landfall, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services released a  new, searchable database of nearly 200 retail gas station locations with access to backup power generators.

“With Hurricane Dorian expected to strengthen into an extremely dangerous storm, widespread power outages should be expected,” stated Commissioner Nikki Fried. “Consumers should continue securing fuel ahead of landfall, and not rely on stations being open after the storm, whether or not they have access to generator power. It’s critical to prepare now.”

Consumers should note that while Florida law (Chapter 526.143, Florida Statutes) requires certain retail gas stations to have access to backup power generators, that does not guarantee those stations will be open, operational, or dispensing fuel after the storm. Severe hurricane damage may impede operations of these private businesses, even with access to backup power generators.

The database can be accessed at  FloridaConsumerHelp.com. Should consumers experience gas/fuel-related issues, they should contact the Division of Consumer Services at 1-800-HELP-FLA (1-800-FL-AYUDA en español), hours for which have been extended throughout the storm from 7 AM to 7 PM.
