NFCC Trains School Resource Officers in Perry

North Florida Community College recently certified 22 law enforcement officers with Basic School Resource Officer training at Amtec’s facility in Perry. Deputies from the Taylor, Jefferson, and Suwannee County Sheriff’s Offices attended along with officers from the Perry and Madison Police Departments. Instructing the class was deputy Darrell Upshaw, a 27-year veteran, with 19 years as a school resource deputy.

The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office now has 19 deputies and supervisors that hold this Basic SRO Certification.

This FDLE approved course provided the participants with the history, philosophy and basic skills to serve as an SRO. Participants received instruction in juvenile law, counseling skills, development of a referral network, identification and ways to handle exceptional students, and classroom training techniques.
