Wakulla County Meth Bust Results in 2 Arrests (Frederick James McKinney & Jodie Elizabeth Barnes)

On August 4, 2020, Detectives of the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) at the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office (SO), assisted by the Special Response Team and the North Star Multijurisdictional Drug Task Force (NSMDTF), executed a search warrant at 41 Maxson Road, Crawfordville, Florida, and arrested two subjects for trafficking in methamphetamine and other drug charges.
During June and July 2020, Detectives of the CID interviewed multiple persons who stated Fred McKinney sold methamphetamine at 41 Maxson Road, Crawfordville, Florida, and that Jodie Barnes also lived there and abused drugs in the home. One person stated the “dope” in the home was consistent with crack, methamphetamine or cocaine.
Additionally, on July 14, 2020, an adult experienced an opioid overdose at the residence. After additional investigation, CID Detectives obtained a search warrant to search the residence and property, which was executed on August 4, 2020. At the time the search warrant was executed, the residence was occupied by Fred McKinney, Jodie Barnes, and another adult. Detectives also encountered a fourth adult in a vehicle in the yard.
During the search, Detectives of the CID and NSMDTF located 28.1 grams of methamphetamine, a quantity of fentanyl, $1,196 U.S. currency, synthetic marijuana, and assorted drug paraphernalia in the master bedroom of the residence.
CID Detectives arrested the following persons and booked them into the Wakulla County Jail on the following charges:
· Frederick James McKinney, 45 years of age – Trafficking in Methamphetamine, possession of fentanyl, and possession of narcotic paraphernalia
· Jodie Elizabeth Barnes, 37 years of age – Trafficking in Methamphetamine, possession of fentanyl, and possession of narcotic paraphernalia
The NSMDTF is a task force that began operations on May 1, 2019, charged with conducting drug enforcement work in 10 counties geographically situated in the Big Bend / Central Panhandle area of North Florida. The NSMDTF is comprised of law enforcement personnel from 13 agencies in 10 counties stretching from Gulf County in the west to Lafayette County in the east. The Sheriffs of 10 counties in that region have cross-deputized personnel to conduct drug investigations as a task force throughout the region. An alphabetical listing of the NSMDTF agencies are the ATF, Calhoun County SO, DEA, Gadsden County SO, Chattahoochee Police Department, Dixie County SO, Gulf County SO, Jefferson County SO, Lafayette County SO, Leon County SO, Liberty County SO, Taylor County SO, and the Wakulla County SO.
