Visitor Contraband Interdiction | November 27 – December 3, 2018

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) has zero tolerance for contraband of any kind, and visitors attempting to introduce contraband are subject to immediate termination of their visitation privileges.

Whenever contraband is recovered on a visitor, local law enforcement is always contacted as well and they determine whether to make an arrest.

This past weekend, institutional staff stopped twenty-three visitors from introducing contraband into FDC’s secure facilities:

Avon Park Work Camp: On December 2, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered marijuana inside the vehicle. Their visitation was terminated.

On December 2, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered contraband tobacco inside the vehicle. Their visitation was terminated.

Cross City Correctional Institution: On December 2, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, the visitor admitted to having dropped marijuana at an undisclosed location on the premise. The visitor was arrested for introduction of contraband.

Dade Correctional Institution: On December 2, during a pat search, staff discovered a visitor to be in possession of narcotics, marijuana and contraband tobacco. The visitor abandoned the contraband and departed the institution.

Everglades Correctional Institution: On December 2, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered narcotics, marijuana, paraphernalia and alcohol inside the vehicle. Their visitation was terminated.

Everglades Re-Entry: On December 2, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered marijuana inside the vehicle. Their visitation was terminated.

Hamilton Annex: On December 2, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a vehicle shared by four visitors. Staff subsequently discovered narcotics and marijuana. Two of the occupants were arrested for possession. The other two occupants had their visitations terminated.

Hamilton Correctional Institution: On December 2, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered contraband tobacco inside the vehicle. Their visitation was terminated.

On December 2, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered marijuana inside the vehicle. Their visitor was arrested for possession.

Hardee Correctional Institution: On December 2, staff observed a visitor to have alcohol in plain view in their vehicle. The visitation was terminated.

Marion Correctional Institution: On December 1, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor. Staff subsequently discovered the visitor to be in possession of synthetic marijuana, narcotics and marijuana. Their visitor was arrested for possession and introduction of contraband.

Okeechobee Work Camp: On December 1, staff discovered a visitor to be in possession of marijuana. Their visitation was terminated.

Santa Rosa Annex: On December 2, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered marijuana inside the vehicle. Their visitation was terminated.

Santa Rosa Work Camp: On December 2, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a vehicle shared by four visitors. Staff subsequently discovered marijuana and a firearm inside the vehicle. Two of the occupants were arrested, one for possession and introduction of contraband, and one for possession of a firearm on state grounds. The other two occupants had their visitation terminated.

Suwannee Correctional Institution: On December 2, staff detected a strong odor of marijuana on two visitors attempting to enter the institution. Their visitations were terminated.
