Visitor Contraband Interdiction | August 6 – 13, 2018

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) has zero tolerance for contraband of any kind, and visitors attempting to introduce contraband are subject to immediate termination of their visitation privileges.

Whenever contraband is recovered on a visitor, local law enforcement is always contacted as well and they determine whether to make an arrest.

This past weekend, institutional staff stopped twelve visitors from introducing contraband into FDC’s secure facilities:

Baker Correctional Institution: On August 11, staff discovered a visitor to be in possession of marijuana. The visitation was terminated and the visitor was arrested for possession of marijuana.

Dade Correctional Institution: On August 12, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered marijuana residue inside the vehicle. The visitation was terminated.

Desoto Correctional Institution Annex: On August 12, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered marijuana residue inside the vehicle. The visitation was terminated.

Florida State Prison West Unit: On August 12, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. The visitor admitted to having consumed marijuana prior to arriving at the institution. The visitation was terminated.

Graceville Correctional Facility: On August 12, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. The visitor refused consent to search the vehicle. The visitation was terminated.

Hamilton Correctional Institution Work Camp: On August 11, a visitor was found to be in possession of synthetic marijuana. The visitation was terminated and the visitor was arrested for possession of narcotics and introduction of contraband.

Jefferson Correctional Institution: the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor. During a pat search, staff subsequently discovered the visitor to be in possession of synthetic marijuana, marijuana and cocaine. The visitation was terminated and the visitor was arrested for possession of narcotics and introduction of contraband.

Liberty Correctional Institution South: On August 12, a visitor was found to be in possession of a contraband cellphone. The visitation was terminated, local law enforcement confiscated the cellphone and issued the visitor a notice to appear.

Marion Correctional Institution: On August 11, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered marijuana residue inside the vehicle. The visitation was terminated.

Polk Correctional Institution: On August 12, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. The visitor admitted to having consumed marijuana prior to arriving at the institution. The visitation was terminated.

Santa Rosa Correctional Institution: On August 12, a visitor was found to be in possession of contraband tobacco. The visitation was terminated and the visitor was arrested for introduction of contraband.

South Bay Correctional Facility: On August 12, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff located marijuana and a firearm inside the vehicle.
