Tallahassee, Fla. – This evening, Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried released the following statement ahead of House Bill 1455’s hearing tomorrow in the Florida House Professions & Public Health Subcommittee. The bill would set an arbitrary 10 percent cap on smokable medical marijuana.

“Medical marijuana is medicine. It’s medicine that has changed countless lives for the better, for which Floridians voted overwhelmingly, and which Americans support in record numbers. It’s also one of the nation’s fastest-growing industries, supporting entrepreneurs and tens of thousands of Florida jobs. No one has asked for arbitrary THC caps – neither patients nor businesses. These caps are a tax on medical marijuana patients already forced to pay too high a price for medicine. They are a political solution in search of a non-existent problem. I ask members of our House subcommittee responsible for public health to vote no on THC caps that don’t improve health and don’t serve the public.”
