Tallahassee, Fla. – Today, Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried released the following statement calling on Governor Ron DeSantis to correct the record after participants at an event he hosted claimed that COVID vaccines change your RNA and could potentially lead to death:
“It seems like every day our Governor spreads some new dangerous conspiracy theory about COVID-19. The COVID vaccines do not change your RNA, and it is deeply irresponsible for DeSantis to use his platform to elevate the false notion that they do. It is extremely concerning that he continues to spread disinformation and ignore the advice of doctors and scientists. This is completely unacceptable behavior from someone who is supposed to be leading our state out of this pandemic, and he should correct the record immediately.”
Last week, Commissioner Fried sounded the alarm as Governor DeSantis used his platform to spread multiple vaccine conspiracy theories. Commissioner Fried, an independently elected member of the Florida Cabinet, has been providing regular COVID-19 updates, holding briefings across the state to provide timely public health information as well as encouraging science-based virus-mitigation efforts, including vaccination, mask-wearing, social distancing, and testing after known exposure or symptoms.
