MCSO Addresses Rumors Regarding Lock-Down at MCCS

****Attention****

Apparently there is a social media posting suggesting the Madison County Central School is or has been on lockdown due to a threat of an active shooter or the possibility of an active shooter. This is false information. There is no active confirmable threat nor has there been a received credible threat to any Madison County School. It is our belief that this originated from a social media posting by a juvenile in South Carolina and has been shared multiple times across social media. In response the Madison County Sheriff’s Office assigned multiple deputies and investigators to this matter in effort to cease the sharing of this particular posting by any of our Madison County students to prevent undo panic. Again the Madison County Central School is not on lockdown nor has it been on lockdown. We have been informed that since the recent tragedy in Parkland, Florida, the school has opted to keep the front doors locked as an extra security measure meaning parents and visitors have to be let in. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
