WASHINGTON –
U.S. Rep. Al Lawson (FL-5) released the following statement regarding President Trump’s comment advocating a government shutdown in September:

“President Trump is still playing political games with our government. Threatening to shut down the government is irresponsible and puts ideology ahead of sound policy. We need to be coming together to figure out how to make meaningful progress for the American people – and that includes funding our government so that we can serve the people who elected us to do just that.

The last time the Republicans shut down the government in 2013, it cost our economy $24 billion and 120,000 jobs. We were not sent to Washington to throw temper tantrums, and I implore the President and my Republican colleagues to put aside their partisan grandstanding and get to work. We have plenty to do, and no time to waste.”
