High Speed Chase Begins in Lowndes County; Ends in Madison County

News Release (June 29, 2017)

Major David Harper of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at approximately 4:12 pm, Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office contacted the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and advised that they were involved in a vehicle pursuit coming into Madison County on highway 145 at speeds in excess of 120 miles per hour.

Madison County Deputies responded to intercept the pursuit and attempted to deploy stop sticks in Hanson however the suspect was able to avoid hitting them. The pursuit continued South on highway 145 and deputies notified officers from the Madison Police Department.

The fleeing vehicle entered the City Limits of Madison on Livingston Street turning South onto Washington Street before crossing Base Street. Responding officers lost sight of the fleeing vehicle but was soon notified by concerned citizens that the suspect vehicle had crashed behind the Cooks and Cooper Funeral home near MLK Drive. Citizens reported witnessing the occupants flee into the woods on foot.

Sergeant Jarrod Lauth arrived to the scene and deployed canine Miso. With assistance from MPD officers, a confined perimeter was established. Canine Miso quickly detected the suspects scent and began leading deputies Southwest through the heavily wooded area.

After tracking for more than a mile, canine Miso was able to locate both suspects hiding in tall brush. Both suspect immediately surrendered upon seeing canine Miso and was taken into custody without further incident resulting in the recovery of more than a pound and half of Crystal Methamphetamine and a handgun.

Both suspects were booked into the Madison County Jail and will be extradited to Lowndes County, Georgia to face drug and weapon charges.

This successful arrest was achieved by coordinated efforts from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, the Madison Police Department, and the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office along with information provided from concerned Madison County citizens.
