Tallahassee, Fla. — Today, Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried wrote a letter to President Biden in support of Floridian Ketanji Brown Jackson as nominee for the U.S. Supreme Court.
The letter reads in part: “As a fellow graduate of my alma mater, Miami Palmetto Senior High School, I am acutely aware of Ms. Brown Jackson’s unimpeachable reputation in Florida for her sedulousness and esteemed record of consensus-building. I applaud your commitment to nominating a Black woman to the bench, understanding the enormous impact her presence would make on the Court, adding perspectives and experiences that have never before in our history been included. You have the opportunity to make history with this nomination, and I believe there is no better candidate than Ketanji Brown Jackson.”

I write today to urge your strong consideration of Ketanji Brown Jackson as your nominee to the United States Supreme Court. Ms. Brown Jackson is eminently qualified to serve on our nation’s highest court; she was confirmed to the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit with bipartisan support in 2021 and previously served as a federal trial court judge, a public defender, and as vice chairman of the U.S. Sentencing Commission.
As a fellow graduate of my alma mater, Miami Palmetto Senior High School, I am acutely aware of Ms. Brown Jackson’s unimpeachable reputation in Florida for her sedulousness and esteemed record of consensus-building.
