Tallahassee, Fla. — Today, Florida Commissioner of Agriculture and Consumer Services Nikki Fried issued the following statement in response to the news that the U.S. Senate has passed the Inflation Reduction Act:

“I’m thrilled the Senate has passed the Inflation Reduction Act, which is one of the most meaningful pieces of legislation passed in a generation. It’s the largest investment to date to counter climate change, which is also an investment in Florida’s future and our way of life. This bill will also lower the cost of prescription drugs, require corporations to pay their fair share in taxes, and reduce the deficit by more than $300 billion. Senate Democrats were able to accomplish these goals without any new taxes on everyday families – and not only did every Republican vote against it, but they actually blocked a provision in the bill that would cap the price of insulin at $35. As Florida’s only statewide elected Democrat, I’m proud to stand with Democrats in Washington as they work to lower costs for families.”
