On Tuesday, June 22, 2021, former Member of the Florida House of Representatives John Joseph “Toby” Holland, Jr. passed away. He represented District 67 in the Florida House of Representatives from 1986 until 1992, serving as Chair of the Game and Fish Committee from 1988 until 1989 and Vice Chair of the Employment and Management Relations Committee from 1988 until 1990. Holland began his tenure in public service in 1975 when he was elected mayor of the City of Palmetto, where he served until 1981. He also worked for the Manatee County Tax Assessor’s office and was Manatee County’s first building inspector.

 

To honor the memory of Toby Holland, Jr., and his service to our state, I hereby direct the flags of the United States and the State of Florida to be flown at half-staff at the Manatee County Clerk of Circuit Court in Bradenton, Florida, the City Hall of Palmetto, Florida, and at the State Capitol in Tallahassee, Florida, from sunrise to sunset on Thursday, July 1, 2021.
