VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – FDLE agents today arrested Chalsey O’Brien, 27, for one count of grand theft of a victim over 65 and one count of criminal use of personal identification information of a victim over 60.

In May 2019, the Office of the Attorney General requested the assistance of FDLE regarding possible exploitation of an elderly person after a family member of the victim contacted them.

The investigation found that in 2018, O’Brien had met the victim at a club where she worked as a dancer and had then moved in with him. From September 2018 to May 2019, O’Brien withdrew $38,448.80 in cash from his checking account and then made unauthorized transfers. She did this by using a debit card assigned to the checking account and used the victim’s personal information to purchase $12,951.94 in merchandise ordered online.

The victim never gave O’Brien permission to use his identity. O’Brien benefited from the merchandise, which was sold for cash. She also transferred money from the victim’s money market account to his checking account by phone to prevent him from discovering the theft, while continuing to take money from him.

O’Brien was booked into the Volusia County Jail. This case will be prosecuted by the Statewide Prosecutor’s Office in Orlando.
