FDC – Visitor Contraband Interdiction | May 5 – 6, 2018

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) has zero tolerance for contraband of any kind, and visitors attempting to introduce contraband are subject to immediate termination of their visitation privileges.

Whenever contraband is recovered on a visitor, local law enforcement is always contacted as well and they determine whether to make an arrest.

This past weekend, institutional staff stopped five visitors from introducing contraband into FDC’s secure facilities:

Baker Correctional Institution: On May 5, the a visitor attempted to make a purchase from the facility canteen using counterfeit currency. The currency was confiscated by law enforcement and the visit was terminated.

Blackwater Correctional Facility: On May 6, institution staff discovered an inmate in possession of narcotics during a visitation. Visitation privileges were terminated.

Lancaster Work Camp: On May 5, institution staff discovered narcotics inside a visitor’s vehicle. Visitation privileges for the individual were terminated.

Okeechobee Correctional Institution: On May 5, institution staff observed a visitor delivering an inmate contraband currency. The inmate will be disciplined for introduction of contraband and visitation privileges were terminated for the visitor.

Santa Rosa Correctional Institution Annex: On May 5, the institution’s K-9 Interdiction Team detected marijuana inside a visitor’s vehicle. The visitor was arrested, and her visitation privileges were terminated.
