Statement Regarding the Passing of Sergeant Derrick Dunn

Secretary Julie Jones:

“FDC officers and staff from across Florida have joined together to support our Panhandle facilities which have been impacted by Hurricane Michael. Recovery efforts have just begun but we know that there’s hard work ahead for many weeks and months.

Despite devastating damage and in some cases total loss of homes – our team has shown tremendous commitment to our public safety mission. The teamwork, dedication and sacrifice has been outstanding.

It is with a heavy heart that we report that Sergeant Derrick Dunn died on duty early Friday morning. Sgt. Dunn has served Florida as an officer since 1996. His home institution is Central Florida Reception Center. He became unresponsive at Wakulla C.I., where he had deployed to support the officers impacted by Hurricane Michael. Please keep his family, and FDC brothers and sisters in your prayers as our agency mourns this devastating loss.”

The cause of death appears to be of natural causes.
