FDC Celebrates Florida Correctional Employees Week

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Governor Ron DeSantis proclaimed the week of May 5-11, 2019, as Florida Correctional Employees Week. To celebrate this proclamation, the Florida Department of Corrections proudly recognizes staff for their unwavering commitment to keeping Florida communities safe.

Secretary Mark S. Inch said, “Florida Department of Corrections officers and staff have stepped forward and volunteered to fill the ranks of our state’s public safety effort. It is a calling of selfless service, one they have chosen despite inherent dangers, and often difficult and challenging conditions. Our members embody our core values by exemplifying respect, integrity, courage, selfless service and compassion for those entrusted to their supervision and custody. I join with the Governor to commend our devoted staff and administration who enable us to fulfill our mission.”

President Ronald Reagan first signed a proclamation in 1984, creating “National Correctional Officers Week.” This annual initiative celebrates and honors the work of correctional officers, correctional probation officers and correctional personnel and their essential role in the field of criminal justice.
