Tallahassee, Fla. — Today, Commissioner Nicole “Nikki” Fried highlighted the full agenda for the 2019 Florida Energy and Climate Summit, to be held September 4-6, in Tampa, Florida at the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay.

Florida’s first state-level conference to address climate change since 2008 under then-Governor Charlie Crist, the summit is a multi-day conference hosted by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

The summit’s theme of “Powering Change” will provide opportunities to share ideas on diversifying Florida’s energy sources; promoting energy efficiency, renewable energy and alternative vehicle technology; spurring economic growth; and tackling climate change. It will bring together leaders in energy efficiency and development, sustainability, climate change, agriculture production, government, academic research, technology and finance from across the state and around the nation.

“Energy touches every one of us every single day – from the food we eat, to how we move from one place to another, to the air we breathe. It’s critical that we create policies that take on climate change and position Florida to be a leader in energy innovation, so all Floridians have access to clean, affordable energy while creating new opportunities for Florida’s economy,” said Commissioner Fried. “This year’s summit will examine the interconnectedness of energy with other sectors including agriculture, transportation, and the environment.”

The summit agenda features panel discussions on unique relations in energy. From climate change and the agriculture sector, to the nexus of energy and water and how sea level rise affects coastal communities, to energy efficiency and renewable energy in low-income communities, summit attendees will learn about unique collaborations and initiatives in Florida’s energy sector.
