News Release (June 5, 2017)

Madison County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Epp Richardson reports that on the 3rd day of June 2017 at 8:51 AM, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a 911 call reporting an armed robbery at the AC Food Mart located at 13689 West US 90 in Greenville Florida.

Due to certain language barriers, it was unclear if the robbery was in progress or being reported after the fact. Units were immediately dispatched to the location and were on scene within minutes. Upon arrival, Staff Sergeant Whitfield and Deputy Holbrook discovered the suspect had fled the scene on foot and all persons present were safe.

Store surveillance video revealed a black male entering the store wearing dark colored clothing and a dark colored garment covering his face. The suspect was pointing a black hand gun at the clerk while demanding money from the register. The clerk complied and upon receiving an undisclosed amount of US currency the suspect fled on foot in a westerly direction.

Canine Officer Sgt. Jarrod Lauth, Canine Officer Cpl. O’Brian and CID Lt. Rich Klein arrived on scene as Canine Officer Holbrook deployed his canine “Axel.” The potential suspect was tracked to Haffye Hayes Park. Witnesses described a black male running from the area and getting into a silver sedan that headed east on US 90.

This case is actively under Investigation by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division and any persons with information relating to this crime is encouraged to contact the Madison County Sheriff’s Office at 850-973-4001.
