Visitor Contraband Interdiction | July 23 – July 30, 2018

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) has zero tolerance for contraband of any kind, and visitors attempting to introduce contraband are subject to immediate termination of their visitation privileges.

Whenever contraband is recovered on a visitor, local law enforcement is always contacted as well and they determine whether to make an arrest.

This past weekend, institutional staff stopped eight visitors from introducing contraband into FDC’s secure facilities:

Avon Park Correctional Institution: On July 28, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on two separate visitor’s vehicles. Both visitors refused consent to search their vehicle. Their visitations were terminated.

Avon Park Work Camp: On July 28, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a vehicle shared by two visitors. Staff subsequently discovered marijuana inside the vehicle. The owner of the vehicle was arrested for introduction of contraband.

Baker Correctional Institution: On July 29, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered marijuana inside the vehicle. Their visitation was terminated.

Century Correctional Institution: On July 29, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered marijuana, drug paraphernalia and ammunition inside the vehicle. The visitor was arrested for introduction of contraband.

Century Correctional Institution: On July 29, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered marijuana inside the vehicle. Their visitation was terminated.

New River Work Camp: On July 28, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered alcohol inside the vehicle.
