Visitor Contraband Interdiction | July 16 – July 23, 2018

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) has zero tolerance for contraband of any kind, and visitors attempting to introduce contraband are subject to immediate termination of their visitation privileges.

Whenever contraband is recovered on a visitor, local law enforcement is always contacted as well and they determine whether to make an arrest.

This past weekend, institutional staff stopped six visitors from introducing contraband into FDC’s secure facilities:

Graceville Correctional Institution: On July 21, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered alcohol inside the vehicle. The visitation was terminated.

Hamilton Correctional Institution: On July 22, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on two visitor’s vehicles. Staff subsequently discovered narcotics inside each vehicle. Two visitors were arrested for introduction of contraband.

Hamilton Work Camp: On July 22, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered marijuana inside the vehicle. The visitation was terminated.

Jefferson Correctional Institution: On July 21, a visitor was found to be in possession of marijuana. The individual was arrested for introduction of contraband.

South Florida Reception Center: On July 22, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered marijuana inside the vehicle. The visitation was terminated.
