Visitor Contraband Interdiction | December 25, 2018 – January 1, 2019

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) has zero tolerance for contraband of any kind, and visitors attempting to introduce contraband are subject to immediate termination of their visitation privileges.

Whenever contraband is recovered on a visitor, local law enforcement is contacted, and they determine whether to make an arrest.

This past weekend, institutional staff stopped thirty visitors from introducing contraband into FDC’s secure facilities:

Apalachee Correctional Institution East: On December 29, prior to departing the visitation area, an inmate was found to be in possession of illegal narcotics. Their visitation was terminated as a result of this discovery.

Blackwater Correctional Facility: On December 30, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on two separate visitor’s vehicles. In the first vehicle, staff discovered narcotics and marijuana. The visitor was arrested for possession and introduction of contraband.

In the second vehicle, staff discovered marijuana paraphernalia. Their visitation was terminated.

Charlotte Correctional Institution: On January 1, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered marijuana inside the vehicle. The visitor was arrested for possession.

The institution’s K-9 team also alerted on a visitor. Staff subsequently searched their vehicle and discovered marijuana. Their visitation was terminated.

Columbia Correctional Institution: On December 30, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on five separate visitor’s vehicles. Staff discovered marijuana in each vehicle. All five visitations were terminated.

Cross City Correctional Institution: On January 1, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered marijuana inside the vehicle. Their visitation was terminated.

Cross City Correctional Institution East: On January 1, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered a firearm inside the vehicle. Their visitation was terminated.

Cross City Work Camp: On January 1, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. The visitor admitted to having consumed marijuana, prior to their arrival at the institution. Their visitation was terminated.

Everglades Re-Entry Center: On January 1, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered marijuana inside the vehicle. The visitor was arrested for possession.

Jefferson Correctional Institution: On December 29, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered marijuana and paraphernalia inside the vehicle. Their visitation was terminated.

Madison Correctional Institution: On December 29, a visitor was found to be in possession of a concealed cell phone. Their visitation was terminated.

Martin Work Camp: On January 1, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered marijuana inside the vehicle. Their visitation was terminated.

Polk Correctional Institution: On January 1, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on two separate visitor’s vehicles. Both visitors refused consent to search their vehicles. Their visitations were terminated.

Putnam Correctional Institution: On January 1, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered marijuana and paraphernalia inside the vehicle. Their visitation was terminated.

South Florida Reception Center: On December 30, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered marijuana inside the vehicle. The visitor was arrested for possession.

South Bay Correctional Facility: On December 29, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on two separate visitor’s vehicles. Staff discovered marijuana in each vehicle. Both visitations were terminated.

Taylor Annex: On December 30, during a pat search, staff discovered a visitor to be in possession of a concealed prohibited item. Their visitation was terminated.

A second visitor was unable to clear the metal detector. The visitor refused consent to a further search. Their visitation was terminated.

Tomoka Correctional Institution: On December 30, during a pat search, staff discovered a visitor to be in possession of contraband tobacco. Their visitation was terminated.

On January 1, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered narcotics inside the vehicle. Their visitation was terminated.

Union Correctional Institution: On December 30, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered marijuana inside the vehicle. The visitor was arrested for possession.

Wakulla Correctional Institution: On December 29, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on two separate visitor’s vehicles. Both visitors refused consent to search their vehicles. Their visitations were terminated.
