Visitor Contraband Interdiction | August 13 – 20, 2018

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) has zero tolerance for contraband of any kind, and visitors attempting to introduce contraband are subject to immediate termination of their visitation privileges.

Whenever contraband is recovered on a visitor, local law enforcement is always contacted as well and they determine whether to make an arrest.

This past weekend, institutional staff stopped eleven visitors from introducing contraband into FDC’s secure facilities:

Blackwater Correctional Facility: On August 18, during a pat search, staff discovered a visitor to be in possession of narcotics. The visitation was terminated and the visitor was arrested for possession of narcotics and introduction of contraband.

Everglades Re-Entry Center: On August 19, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered marijuana residue inside the vehicle. The visitation was terminated.

Ft. Myers Work Camp: On August 18, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered marijuana residue inside the vehicle. The visitation was terminated.

Graceville Correctional Facility: On August 19, during a pat search, staff discovered a visitor to be in possession of synthetic marijuana. The visitation was terminated and the visitor was arrested for introduction of contraband.

Lake Correctional Institution: On August 19, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered marijuana inside the vehicle. The visitation was terminated.

Lowell Correctional Institution Annex: On August 19, a visitor was found to be in possession of contraband tobacco. During a subsequent search of the visitor’s vehicle, a loaded firearm was discovered. The visitation was terminated.

Okeechobee Correctional Institution: On August 19, staff discovered a visitor attempting to conceal marijuana and an unknown powder inside the visitation area. The visitation was terminated and the visitor was arrested for introduction of contraband.

South Florida Reception Center: On August 19, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on three separate visitor’s vehicles. Staff subsequently discovered marijuana inside two of the vehicles. The third vehicle’s owner refused consent to search their vehicle and departed the institution. All three visitations were terminated and two of the visitors were arrested for possession.

Wakulla Correctional Institution: On August 19, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered marijuana residue inside the vehicle. The visitation was terminated.
