Visitor Contraband Interdiction | April 26 – 29, 2018

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) has zero tolerance for contraband of any kind, and visitors attempting to introduce contraband are subject to immediate termination of their visitation privileges.

Whenever contraband is recovered on a visitor, local law enforcement is always contacted as well and they determine whether to make an arrest.

This past weekend, institutional staff stopped nine visitors from introducing contraband into FDC’s secure facilities:

Columbia Correctional Institution: On April 29, institution staff found a minor accompanying a visitor to be in possession of a cell phone. Her visitation privileges were terminated.

Florida State Prison: On April 26, institution staff discovered a plastic handcuff key concealed within a food item left for the inmate. The visitor was arrested and her visitation privileges were terminated.

Graceville Correctional Facility: On April 29, the institution’s K-9 Interdiction Team detected marijuana inside a visitor’s vehicle. Her visitation privileges were terminated.

Holmes Correctional Institution: On April 28, the institution’s K-9 Interdiction Team detected marijuana inside a visitor’s purse. The visitor was arrested and her visitation privileges were terminated.

Martin Correctional Institution: On April 28, institution staff discovered illegal narcotics concealed beneath a visitor’s clothing. An arrest warrant will be issued for the visitor and her visitation privileges were terminated.

Polk Correctional Institution: On April 29, institution staff discovered an inmate in possession of tobacco immediately following visitation. Visitation privileges were terminated.

Reception and Medical Center Work Camp: On April 29, institution staff found a visitor to be in possession of illegal narcotics. The visitor was arrested and her visitation privileges were terminated.

Reception and Medical Center Work Camp: On April 29, the institution’s K-9 Interdiction Team detected marijuana inside a visitor’s vehicle. Her visitation privileges were terminated.

Santa Rosa Correctional Institution Annex: On April 28, Santa Rosa CO SO discovered marijuana inside a visitor’s vehicle. The visitor was arrested and his visitation privileges were terminated.
