Visitor Contraband Interdiction | April 21 – 22, 2018

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) has zero tolerance for contraband of any kind, and visitors attempting to introduce contraband are subject to immediate termination of their visitation privileges.

Whenever contraband is recovered on a visitor, local law enforcement is always contacted as well and they determine whether to make an arrest.

This past weekend, institutional staff stopped five visitors from introducing contraband into FDC’s secure facilities:

Hamilton Correctional Institution Annex: On April 21, the institution’s K-9 Interdiction Team detected illegal narcotics inside a visitor’s vehicle. The visitor was arrested, and her visitation privileges were terminated.

Hamilton Correctional Institution: On April 21, the institution’s K-9 Interdiction Team detected methamphetamine inside a visitor’s vehicle. The visitor was arrested, and her visitation privileges were terminated.

Hamilton Correctional Institution: On April 21, the institution’s K-9 Interdiction Team detected marijuana inside a visitor’s vehicle. The visitor was arrested, and her visitation privileges were terminated.

Moore Haven Correctional Facility: On April 21, institution staff observed a visitor exchanging wrist watches with an inmate. The inmate will be charged with introduction of contraband and visitation privileges were terminated for the visitor.

Polk Correctional Institution: On April 21, institution staff discovered tobacco in a visitor’s possession. The visitor was arrested, and her visitation privileges were terminated.
