PRESS RELEASE FOR HURRICANE DORIAN

Hurricane Dorian Update: August 29, 2019 9:00 am

Hurricane Dorian is approximately 1,200 miles away from Taylor County. It is still very early to forecast the exact impact Dorian will have upon our community but we must prepare for the worst. The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office—Division of Emergency Management is keeping abreast of Dorian, keeping in contact with the National Hurricane Center in Miami, State Division of Emergency Management in Tallahassee, and the National Weather Service, Tallahassee, Florida. We will open the following shelters on an as needed basis, accordingly:

Main Shelter:
Taylor County Elementary
1600 East Green Street
Perry, Florida 32347

Back-Up Shelter:
Taylor County High School
900 North Johnson Stripling Road
Perry, Florida 32347

Host Shelter Location:
Forest Capital Hall
203 Forest Park Drive
Perry, Florida 32348

Sandbag Locations in Taylor County which will begin today at noon:
– Taylor County Public Works Department (587 US-27, Perry, FL 32347)
– Blue Springs Roll-off site (Blue Springs Lake Rd, Perry, FL 32347)
– Steinhatchee Roll-off site (29649 Beach Road, STEINHATCHEE, FL 32359)

Continue to monitor Dorian as the forecast can change rapidly dependent upon a number of environmental and atmospheric conditions and variables. Plan ahead, prepare for the worst. Let’s get through this together as a community and move forward.
