News Release (July 16, 2018)

Major David Harper of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at 2:00 am Staff Sergeant Jason Whitfield and Deputy Terry Bishop were at the Big Valley Club located on County Camp Road while the establishment closed down. A female approached Staff Sergeant Whitfield and informed him that a male subject asked her if she wanted a ride home. The female declined the offer and the male became angry. The male (later identified as Tavares Roshell Sanders) reportedly began to curse the female and lifted his shirt brandishing a handgun secured in his waistband.

The female victim was able to identify the offender and point him out to Staff Sergeant Whitfield. Sanders was observed leaning against a vehicle watching the victim talking to the deputies. Sanders began to yell obscenities directed to the victim and deputies. Staff Sergeant Whitfield and Deputy Bishop approached Sanders and questioned him about being armed with a handgun. Sanders did not answer but reached toward his waist. At that point both deputies gained control of Sanders and located a .45 caliber handgun tucked in Sanders waistband. The handgun was found to be loaded to capacity. It was confirmed that Sanders is not a Licensed Conceal Carry holder and was immediately placed under arrest without further incident.
