The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is hosting a public workshop Tuesday, March 5, on the future management of the bay scallop fishery around Steinhatchee.

The workshop will start at 6 p.m. ET and will be at the Steinhatchee Community Center, 1013 S. Riverside Drive.

FWC staff will be gathering input on a draft proposal recently approved at the February Commission meeting. The draft proposal will set the bay scallop season in state waters for Dixie County and Taylor County south of the Fenholloway River to start June 15 and run through Sept. 10 each year starting in 2020. The proposal includes a reduced bag limit from the start of the season through June 30; with the regular bag limit beginning July 1. This proposal will be brought back before the Commission for final approval in May.
