News Release (April 29, 2019)

Major David Harper of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Monday, April 29, 2019 at approximately 2:30 p.m., Sergeant Jarrod Lauth observed Lafredrick Quindell McQuay walking near the intersection of S. W. Pinckney Street and S. W. Horry Avenue. Sergeant Lauth recognized McQuay from previous interactions and knew McQuay had active warrants for his arrest.

Sergeant Lauth attempted to contact McQuay, however, McQuay fled on foot. Sergeant Lauth gave chase briefly before returning to his patrol vehicle to deploy K-9 Miso. A large perimeter was established with the assistance of officers from the Madison Police Department.

K-9 Miso quickly detected McQuay’s scent and began tracking in a Southwest direction leading deputies to a residence on Orange Street with tin skirting around the bottom. K-9 Miso tracked up to the tin on the Southside of the residence and deputies could see where the tin had been recently pulled away and placed back.

Sergeant Lauth pulled the tin away from the house and announced his presence with the canine warning. McQuay immediately called out and surrendered without further incident.

McQuay was transported to the Madison County Jail where he currently is being held without bond. The apprehension of McQuay is credited to the coordinated efforts of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and the Madison Police Department. There was no one home at the residence during the time McQuay concealed himself under the house or during his arrest. McQuay has listed addresses in both Madison, Fl. and Valdosta, Ga.
