MCSO Searching for Attempted Home Invader; Suspected that Suspect Has Been Shot

John Anthony Russell has surrendered himself to Madison County Sheriff’s Office Investigators at a location in Taylor County without further incident. Russell did not have a gunshot wound and was found to be without any injuries. Russell will be turned over to Taylor County deputies and transported to the Taylor County Jail were he will be booked on Madison County Arrest Warrants.

****ATTENTION****

Deputies with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with deputies of the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office is actively searching locations in Taylor County for John Anthony Russell who is wanted for his involvement in an Attempted Burglary committed earlier this date at a residence located near the Madison / Taylor County line on US 19/27.

The homeowner who is known by Russell fired multiple shots at him. It is unclear if Russell  was hit by any of the shots.

Russell fled into the woods behind the residence. K-9 deputies tracked Russell to a location where a vehicle had been recently parked. It is believed Russell then returned to Taylor County.

Russell is described as a 48 year old white male approximately 5 foot, 4 inches tall weighing 165 pounds with “salt and pepper” hair. Russell was last seen wearing blue jeans and no shirt.

Russell has since made threats to kill law enforcement when he is located. Russell is considered Armed and Dangerous.

If anyone has any information about the whereabouts of Russell you are asked to call 911 immediately. Do not approach Russell. This update is current and being provided from the field with no access to a photograph however a photograph will be made available later as the investigation is active and ongoing.

Multiple deputies have responded to a residence near the Madison / Taylor county line located on US 19/27. A homeowner called 911 reporting that a male subject attempted to force entry into the residence.

The homeowner fired multiple shots at the suspect. The suspect fled into the woods behind the residence along with another male. . It is believed the suspect was hit at least once. Deputies deployed k-9 and tracked the suspect to a location where a vehicle was recently parked. The scene and investigation is active and ongoing. An update will be provided when additional information is available. Thank you for your attention.
