MCSO Ecourages the Public to “Drop a Dime” on Bad Drivers. Is Increasing Enforcement on the Valdosta Highway!

In response to recent complaints regarding reckless drivers on Colin Kelly Highway (hwy 145 also known as the Valdosta Highway) the Madison County Sheriff’s Office will be increasing traffic enforcement efforts on this roadway especially during the morning commute hours. The goal is to increase traveling safety for all motorists.

I encourage everyone to drive responsibly and allow extra time to reach your destination. Eliminate distractions such as texting while driving.

Report careless and unsafe drivers to the Sheriff’s Office Communications Center by calling 911 if the observed driving behavior is immediate and ongoing or by calling 973-4001 extension 1 when it is safe for you to do so.

Be prepared to describe the vehicle, approximate location and direction of travel. Do not attempt to “keep up” with a speeding vehicle or to photograph the vehicle, especially if you are driving yourself. Vehicle tag number and/or state is helpful, but not required. Provide the Communications Officer with an accurate vehicle description and explanation of the driving actions you witnessed.

We understand that we cannot catch them all but we may just be able to locate and stop the one that is reported and hopefully educate the driver while possibly preventing a traffic crash at the same time.

Let’s all do our part in making the roadways in Madison County safer for everyone. Thank you for your attention and concern.

Major David Harper
