News Release (September 20, 2018)

Major David Harper of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at 10:17 a. m. deputies were dispatched to Jimmie’s Auto Port located at 6375 South State Road 53 in Madison regarding a possible credit card skimming device being installed on one of the fuel pumps.

Upon arrival an employee reported that while checking the fuel pumps he noticed that one of the applied pump security seals on pump number 16 appeared to be altered. During further inspection the employee located a possible credit card skimming device installed on pump number 15. The employee had already removed the device prior to the deputy arriving and turned the device over to the deputy. Surveillance video has been requested from management to assist with the investigation.

At this time, it believed that this is an isolated event as no other reports of similar incidents have been received by the Sheriff’s Office. Consumers are warned to be aware of their surroundings and closely inspect fuel pumps for signs of tampering prior to inserting any credit or debit cards into a fuel pump when purchasing fuel especially at stations along any major highway or Interstate. If a fuel pump is suspected to be altered or tampered with notify an employee immediately.
