The Madison County Sheriff’s Office has received information regarding an add posted on social media and specifically Madison County Florida Yard Sales / Items for sale Facebook page that is possibly a scam attempt.
A concerned citizen reported that email correspondence with the email address provided in the add attempted to solicit personal information. A common tactic used by scammers in this type of scam is to only provide an email address as the preferred means of communication regarding the add. Most often the email address provided is a gmail account.
Often times the person’s account where the fraudulent add is posted has been hacked and the person is unaware that an add has been posted by them.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office reminds everyone to protect their personal information and never provide information to anyone not personally known by any means such as email, over the phone or via social media. Always use an abundance of caution and diligence to ensure you are not falling victim to a scam attempt.
It appears the same photo pictured in the below add has been posted multiple times by account holders in many different countries. Do not fall victim.
