Governor Ron DeSantis Appoints Robert Luck to the Florida Supreme Court

Miami, Fla. – Today, Governor Ron DeSantis appointed Florida Third District Court of Appeal Judge Robert Luck to the Florida Supreme Court. Justice Luck was sworn in by recently appointed Justice Barbara Lagoa. Justice Luck was surrounded by family and friends during the announcement at Scheck Hillel Community School.

“It is a great privilege for me to appoint Robert Luck to the Florida Supreme Court. Justice Luck has a public servant’s heart and a deep understanding of the constitutional separation of powers and the proper role of the courts,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “Not only will he be a formidable force on the Florida Supreme Court, I think he will immediately command the respect of his colleagues and Florida’s judicial community. Our state is fortunate to have Justices Luck and Lagoa now serving on the bench.”

Justice Robert Luck

Justice Luck was born and raised in Miami-Dade County and graduated from North Miami Beach Senior High School. He was appointed to the Florida Third District Court of Appeal by Governor Rick Scott, taking his seat in March of 2017.

Prior to his appointment to the Florida Third District Court of Appeal, Justice Luck served on the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Court of Florida from September 2013 to March 2017 and won an election to retain his seat by the voters of Miami-Dade County in 2016. As a trial court judge, Justice Luck tried seventy jury trials and heard dozens of appeals from the county court and municipal agencies.

Prior to his judgeships, Justice Luck served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida where he handled the Appeals, Major Crimes and Economic Crimes sections of the U.S. Attorney’s Office. During this time, Justice Luck tried nineteen jury trials before the federal district court and argued three appeals to the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

Justice Luck received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics with honors and his Juris Doctor from the University of Florida, where he graduated magna cum laude and served as Editor-in-Chief of the Florida Law Review at the University of Florida Levin College of Law.
