TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, Governor Rick Scott and the Florida Cabinet issued the following resolution recognizing Nicholas Dolan as the 2018 Florida Highway Patrol Trooper of the Year. The Trooper of the Year is awarded to a deserving member of the Florida Highway Patrol for their core values of courtesy, service and protection ensuring the safety and welfare of millions of Floridians and visitors.
RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the Troopers of the Florida Highway Patrol are exposed to personal risk on a daily basis while serving and protecting the citizens and visitors of Florida; and
WHEREAS, a Trooper, during his tenure will encounter situations to distinguish himself through extraordinarily heroic and selfless actions during the call of duty; and
WHEREAS, Trooper Nicholas Dolan encountered an active shooter suspect fleeing Marion County while patrolling U.S. 41 in Citrus County; and
WHEREAS, Trooper Dolan observed the active shooter suspect point a handgun at him as he drove past him; and
WHEREAS, Trooper Dolan initiated a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver to terminate the pursuit of the suspect; and
WHEREAS, Trooper Dolan was confronted by an armed suspect and returned fire neutralizing the threat; and
WHEREAS, all Floridians and visitors of Florida are safer due to the selfless, heroic actions as demonstrated by Trooper Nicholas Dolan; and
WHEREAS, Trooper Nicholas Dolan, through his actions, exemplified the mission of the Florida Highway Patrol for service, integrity, courtesy, professionalism, innovation, and excellence.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Governor and Cabinet of the State of Florida do hereby recognize and commend
Trooper Nicholas Dolan
2018 Trooper of the Year
for his heroic actions in service to the citizens and visitors of Florida.
