On June 4, 2017, corrections Lt. Patricia Sadler and Sgt. Sondra Flowers discovered contraband in the possession of a female inmate during the booking process at the Taylor County Jail. As a result, Amanda Glenn of Perry was charged with multiple felonies. Introduction of contraband into a county detention facility, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription. Glenn had reported to jail as part of her sentence on a prior conviction.

The smuggling of drugs and weapons into prisons and jails continues to be a significant problem throughout the nation. The sheriff’s office is currently exploring other tools to aid in detecting these items. One being utilized in other Florida county jails is the full body scanner. It has significantly reduced the amount of contraband being introduced into those facilities.
