TALLAHASSEE – The Florida Lottery announces its strongest May ever, with record sales for the month totaling more than $529 million. This represents a $26.6 million increase over the previous May record reached in 2013. Sales from the month of May alone allowed the Lottery to contribute $133 million to the state’s Educational Enhancement Trust Fund (EETF).

“Since opening our doors almost 30 years ago, the Lottery has remained committed to our mission of generating additional funding for education,” said Florida Lottery Secretary Tom Delacenserie. “Thanks to our outstanding players, retailers and staff, we have been able to achieve unprecedented sales records that directly benefit Florida’s students and schools.”

Over the past 29 years, the Florida Lottery has established itself as a dependable funding source for public education. For 15 consecutive years the Lottery has transferred more than $1 billion to education, while remaining one of the most efficient lotteries in the nation. Additionally, the Lottery has contributed more than $5 billion to the Bright Futures Scholarship Program to send over 750,000 students to college.

Florida Lottery contributions represent approximately six percent of the state’s total education budget. Lottery funds are appropriated by the Florida Legislature and are administered by the Florida Department of Education.
