News Release (January 12, 2018)

Major David Harper of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Thursday, January 11, 2018, at approximately 9:40 p. m., deputies were dispatched to the 251 eastbound mile marker on Interstate 10 in response to an aggravated battery that took place on a Greyhound Bus.

Upon arrival the bus driver told the deputies that a male passenger had physically attacked a female passenger. Another male passenger attempted to stop the male but was physically attacked as well. The driver stopped the bus and the suspect (Randy Dale Alexander) exited the bus and fled into the wood line on foot.

Multiple officers responded to search for Alexander including Canine Officers from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and the Madison Police Department along with Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol. A perimeter was quickly established and a State Trooper spotted Alexander on the opposite side of the Interstate fence.

The Trooper ordered Alexander to stop however he continued to flee into the woods. Canines were deployed to begin tracking Alexander. A short time later deputies spotted Alexander making his way back to the fence and were able to take him into custody without further incident.

Alexander was arrested and transported to the Madison County Jail. According to the Florida Department of Corrections Inmate Release Search, Alexander was released from prison earlier this same date.

Major Harper would like to thank the Madison Police Department and the Florida Highway Patrol for their assistance with this apprehension.
