Visitor Contraband Interdiction | January 15 – January 21, 2019
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) has zero tolerance for contraband of any kind, and visitors attempting to introduce contraband are subject to immediate termination of their visitation privileges.
Whenever contraband is recovered on a visitor, local law enforcement is contacted, and they determine whether to make an arrest.
Baker Correctional Institution: On January 19, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on three visitor’s vehicles. Staff discovered marijuana inside each vehicle, one also contained narcotics. Their visitations were terminated.
Century Correctional Institution: On January 19, staff conducted a pat search of a visitor and discovered two concealed bundles of marijuana. During a subsequent search of their vehicle, additional packaged bundles of marijuana were located. The visitor was arrested for introduction of contraband and possession.
On January 20, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on two separate visitors. The first visitor admitted to having consumed narcotics, prior to their arrival. Their visit was terminated. The second visitor was found to have marijuana, located in their vehicle. Their visitation was also terminated.
Dade Correctional Institution: On January 19, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff discovered marijuana inside the vehicle. Their visitation was terminated.
DeSoto Annex: On January 19, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. The visitor refused consent to search the vehicle. Their visitation was terminated.
Madison Work Camp: On January 21, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff discovered marijuana inside the vehicle. Their visitation was terminated.
Martin Correctional Institution: On January 19, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a vehicle shared by two visitors. Staff discovered marijuana inside the vehicle. Their visitations were terminated.
Mayo Correctional Institution: On January 20, the institution’s K-9 team alerted four visitor’s vehicles. In the first vehicle, staff discovered marijuana and narcotics. This visitor departed the institution, prior to the arrival of law enforcement. In the three remaining vehicles, staff discovered marijuana. Their visitations were terminated.
New River Correctional Institution: On January 20, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff discovered marijuana inside the vehicle. The visitor was issued a notice to appear and their visitation was terminated.
New River Work Camp: On January 20, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff discovered marijuana inside the vehicle. Their visitation was terminated.
Polk Correctional Institution: On January 20, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff discovered marijuana inside the vehicle. Their visitation was terminated.
South Florida Reception Center: On January 20, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff discovered marijuana inside the vehicle. This visitor departed the institution, prior to the arrival of law enforcement.
Tomoka Correctional Institution: On January 20, staff conducted a pat search of a visitor and discovered two concealed cell phones. The visitor was arrested for introduction of contraband.
