Visitor Contraband Interdiction | December 4 – December 10, 2018

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) has zero tolerance for contraband of any kind, and visitors attempting to introduce contraband are subject to immediate termination of their visitation privileges.

Whenever contraband is recovered on a visitor, local law enforcement is always contacted as well and they determine whether to make an arrest.

This past weekend, institutional staff stopped eleven visitors from introducing contraband into FDC’s secure facilities:

Century Correctional Institution: On December 9, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. During a search of the vehicle, the visitor admitted to possessing marijuana. Their visitation was terminated.

Desoto Work Camp: On December 8, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff searched the vehicle and discovered drug paraphernalia. Their visitation was terminated.

Homestead Correctional Institution: On December 9, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. The owner of the vehicle refused consent to search, and their visitation was terminated.

On December 9, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff searched the vehicle and discovered marijuana. Their visitation was terminated.

Okeechobee Correctional Institution: On December 9, staff discovered a visitor to be in possession of contraband tobacco. Their visitation was terminated.

On December 9, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff searched the vehicle and discovered marijuana. Their visitation was terminated.

Okeechobee Work Camp: On December 9, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff searched the vehicle and discovered marijuana. The visitor was issued a notice to appear, and their visitation was terminated.

Polk Correctional Institution: On December 9, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff searched the vehicle and discovered marijuana. The visitor was arrested for possession.

Reception and Medical Center: On December 9, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff searched the vehicle and discovered marijuana. Their visitation was terminated.

On December 9, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff discovered a firearm and marijuana inside the vehicle. Their visitation was terminated.

On December 9, the institution’s K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff searched the vehicle and discovered marijuana. The visitor was issued a notice to appear and their visitation was terminated.
