FDC Remains Committed to Public Safety and Offender Supervision During Halloween
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — On October 31, Florida Department of Corrections’ (FDC) probation officers will work alongside state and local law enforcement agencies to ensure sex offenders under felony supervision do not partake in any Halloween-related activities.
Throughout the evening, FDC probation officers will make personal contact with sex offenders under their jurisdiction to ensure they remain in compliance. Safety efforts will also include frequent surprise visits by probation officers, covert residence monitoring, and increased surveillance at motels and temporary housing areas where sex offenders live and congregate.
Secretary Julie Jones said, “Safety for Florida communities remains our top priority, even during the holiday season. Sex offenders are reminded of specific Halloween-related instructions each year while they are on probation. Our officers partner with state and local law enforcement to conduct planned compliance initiatives. This enables families to better enjoy their time spent together in the community.”
In addition to the increased security, sex offenders are expected to strictly abide by these holiday specific restrictions which include:
- Do not give out candy or other treats.
- Turn off porch lights, close blinds.
- No outside decorations to attract children.
- Do not answer the door to trick-or-treaters.
- Do not dress in costumes or masks.
- Do not attend Halloween parties where children will be present.
Offenders who are found to be in non-compliance with the terms of their supervision will be subject to immediate arrest.
