FDC Celebrates Florida Correctional Employees Week

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Governor Rick Scott proclaimed the week of May 6-12, 2018, as Florida Correctional Employees Week. During this week, the Department will recognize staff for their contributions toward reducing recidivism and keeping Florida communities safe.

Secretary Julie Jones said, “The heart and soul of this Department are our employees. Often unseen, they work tirelessly every day to ensure the safety and security of our inmates and to prepare and support offenders during their re-entry into communities across the state. We are proud to recognize them for their accomplishments this week and express our most sincere appreciation for their service to the state of Florida.”

President Ronald Reagan signed a Proclamation in 1984, creating “National Correctional Officers Week.” The first week of May has since been recognized as National Correctional Employees Week to honor the work of correctional officers, correctional probation officers and correctional personnel.

The Florida Department of Corrections is the third largest state prison system in the country, employing 24,000 correctional staff across 148 facilities and 130 probation offices statewide.
